African Wildlife: Giraffes

Giraffes are a very gentle animal. In captivity they will lick pellets right out of your mouth. And yet if they are cornered, they can kill a lion with one kick.

I love giraffe pictures. One of our favourite places in the world and the best place to take photos of giraffes is the Giraffe Manor in Nairobi. The wild giraffes literally poke their heads into the dinning room windows as you are having breakfast in hopes that you will offer them a little breakfast as well. My blog shows giraffe manor from a tourists' perspective as well as video of a giraffe kising Gaye.

This female giraffe was very protective. As we drove around, she kept herself between us and her baby at all times.

This is what you see at breakfast time at Giraffe Manor. It is breakfast time for them as well and they are looking for some giraffe pellets.

Mother giraffes are not the most maternal of all the animals and they often leave their babies behind to fend for themselves. That's why it was a rare moment as I managed to capture a quick nursing moment before mom ran away.
